Check below – your legislator may be holding a town hall meeting this week
As the legislature works to wrap-up the important business of balancing the state budget by May 23, 2011, many are taking the time to meet with constituents back in their districts. These town hall forums which are a perfect opportunity for you to let your elected official know what you care about most deeply.
Throughout the session, they have been hard at work – seeking solutions to Minnesota’s $5 billion budget shortfall. At this key transition point they need to hear about your passions and insights – and gain your support to help guide them through the remainder of this session.
Please consider attending your local town hall forum and letting your legislators know that you care about programs that strengthen our communities. Don't worry about being an expert on these legislative issues, you are an expert on your own life and you know best what programs or services mean to you and the people in your life.
Bring friends, bring family, and bring these talking points to guide your comments.
Talking points – for town hall forums, May, 2011:
• I am here today because I care about Minnesota and want all of our residents to prosper.
• I want to encourage you to pursue meaningful reform and redesign that focuses on improving the quality of life for Minnesotans in need.
• Please advance solutions that demonstrate care for our most disadvantaged neighbors by sustaining what works for people in need of job training, placement and retention, mental health services, and basic needs.
• Thank you for your service. Please contact me if I can be a resource to you in the future.
