Voter Education and Outreach Assistant
If you have a passion for elections, politics and community outreach, come put your skills to use for a great cause! Goodwill/Easter Seals MN is looking for volunteers to assist with our nonpartisan voter education and outreach programs. G/ESM will be conducting grassroots voter outreach and education for our participants, staff, shoppers and donors through the 2010 election season. Volunteers are needed to help educate individuals about their voting rights and responsibilities, help them register to vote, demonstrate proper usage of accessible voting machines, assist with candidate forums and coordinate speakers for groups of Goodwill/Easter Seals MN program participants. The ideal volunteer will be outgoing and comfortable speaking with people from diverse backgrounds. Some knowledge of the American electoral system and voting process is preferred but not required as training will be provided. Volunteers should be at least 18 years old and not associated with any political campaign. Where: Various Goodwill/Easter Seals locations throughout the Twin Cities Metro Area, St. Cloud and Willmar When: Volunteers are needed from July – November 2010. Scheduling is very flexible but volunteers are expected to contribute a minimum of 2 hours
Volunteer Mentor
Do you have experience with or knowledge of the Criminal Justice System? Are you interested in making a difference in the life of someone transitioning out of community corrections? Goodwill/Easter Seals MN is looking for volunteers to mentor our adult male Reentry participants that have transitioned out of corrections and are receiving skills training or employment services through our program. The ideal volunteer mentor will be comfortable working with people from diverse backgrounds, able to provide a listening ear and constructive feedback and offer support. The mentoring partnership will be focused on goals such as securing employment, family relationships or financial literacy. Where: Goodwill/Easter Seals MN office in St. Paul, the Father Project in South Minneapolis, or other public settings determined by both mentor and mentee. When: Mentor Orientation occurs on Tuesday July 13th and Thursday July 15th from 5-8 pm. Volunteer Mentors are expected to contribute a minimum of 4 hours per month for a minimum of 6 months and a maximum of 12 months.
Equipment Loan Customer Service Volunteer
Develop administrative assistance skills while supporting the mission of helping people overcome barriers to their independence! As a Customer Service Volunteer in Goodwill/Easter Seals Equipment Loan program, you will greet individuals in need of medical equipment, record equipment loan information in Microsoft Access and connect customers with other community resources. Available Monday through Friday from 9am – 4pm with a commitment of 2 hours per week.
Computer Lab Volunteer Assistant
Gain valuable tutoring experience while assisting adult participants in the Goodwill/Easter Seals Minnesota Computer Lab! Work with the computer lab teacher and AmeriCorps Members to facilitate the mastery of basic computer terminology such as “mouse” and “cursor” and assist our adult learns in basic functions such as logging in and off of computers. Provide participants with personalized support while they learn how to use web browsers, create documents in Microsoft Word, and gain keyboarding skills. Mock Interviewer
Assist 5 to 7 adult participants in developing their interviewing skills and provide constructive feedback. A list of interview questions is provided to volunteers upon arrival. Meet one-on-one with participants and aid in their development of interviewing skills. Interviewing experience preferred. Video Production Specialist
Develop video graphic documentation for the acclaimed FATHER Project! Utilize your knowledge of video graphic techniques to document the FATHER Project’s outstanding contribution in fatherhood policy and practice in Minnesota! Gain professional journalistic and artistic experiences by capturing and displaying father/child activities, parenting classes, and participant and volunteer involvement. Requirements: Thorough knowledge of audio and video graphic editing. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Be able to conduct one-on-one interviews, and ability to capture events and activities accurately. When: 10-15 hours a month
Automotive Skills Training Volunteer
Share your knowledge and passion for repairing cars. Work with our full-time trainer and assist our automotive skills students to learn job skills as they prepare for a new career in automotive repair. Provide support and guidance for Goodwill/Easter Seals Automotive Skills Training participants. Training focuses on safety, tool use, fluid and tire maintenance, vehicle inspection and brake repair. Where: 2929 University Ave SE, Minneapolis, MN 55414. When: Mondays through Fridays 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., 2 to 5 hours per day, 4 days per week preferred. Can’t commit to this many hours? GED Tutor at the FATHER Project
The FATHER (Fostering Actions To Help Earnings and Responsibility) Project is a program of Goodwill/Easter Seals. The goal of the FATHER Project is to assist parents in overcoming the barriers that prevent them from supporting their children economically and emotionally. Goodwill/Easter Seals is looking for volunteers to work individually with program participants to help them prepare to take the General Educational Development (GED) exam. The goal of the program is to help participants pass each of the parts of the GED exam so that they can receive their diploma. Review key concepts with adult participants including English, math, social studies and science. Where: 1600 East Lake Street, Minneapolis, MN 55407 When: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., two-hour shift preferred.
GOALS Volunteer
The GOALS (Goals On Average Life Styles) Program provides support for at-risk youth who want to make positive changes in their lives and improve their critical thinking in areas of planning, choices and goal setting. Youth set their own goals with direction from non-judgmental adults who guide them through a contracting process. After each contract, each youth earns a $15 bonus. Volunteer your time and energy working with youth participating in the GOALS Program located at the Goodwill Store in Willmar. Volunteers will work directly with youth by providing them with tools to help developing problem solving skills and techniques. Where: Goodwill/Easter Seals location in Willmar. 2424 First St. South, .Willmar, MN 56201 When: Hours are 12:30-4:30 Monday through Friday. Ideally, volunteers would spend 2-4 hours a week.
Job Club Guest Speaker
Use your public speaking skills and talk to a group of two to 10 adult program participants who are transitioning to the workplace! Goodwill/Easter Seals holds weekly job clubs to aid participants in the job search process. Topics may include interviewing, networking, identifying transferable skills, community resources, budgeting/finance or a topic of your choice! There is no minimum commitment; speak at the job club as your schedule allows. Where: 553 Fairview Ave N, St. Paul, MN 55104 When: Auto/Construction Job Club, Mondays from 9 a.m. to noon; Banking/Financial Industry Job Club, Mondays from 1 to 3 p.m.; Rehabilitation and Retail Skills Job Club, every first and third Friday of the month from 10 a.m. to noon.
Construction Skills Trainer Volunteer
Use your construction related expertise to help to guide our Construction Skills Training Program participants in the training shop and at construction sites! Work with the trainer to provide additional training support with safety, construction industry fundamentals, hand and power tool use, framing basics, blue print reading, construction related math and other topics. Required qualifications include strong hand and power tool skills, and strong knowledge of general building concepts. The ideal candidate should have extensive construction experience. Jewelry Expert
Needed: Jewelry expert! Do you have passion and expertise working

good use sorting and appraising jewelry for Goodwill/Easter Seals MN!
Shopgoodwill.com is looking for volunteers with experience sorting and
assessing jewelry to help sort donations for our online jewelry
auctions.
Volunteers should have experience in the field and be able to
independently assess and value jewelry items including rings,
necklaces, earrings and bracelets. If you have a love of jewelry, a
good eye for quality, good organizational and communication skills and
the ability to work independently, this is the perfect opportunity for
you!

Volunteer group opportunities
Volunteer Jewelry Drives
Volunteer your time coordinating a jewelry drive! Goodwill/Easter Seals MN has an auxiliary group of volunteers called Goodwill Industries Volunteer Services (GIVS). The GIVS group raises money through vintage fashion shows, jewelry sales, benefit luncheons, and other fundraising events. Gently used jewelry (including earrings, necklaces, bracelets, watches, cuff links, and pins) is accepted through donations and sold at jewelry sales throughout the year. All of the money raised from the jewelry sale goes directly to assist participants in Goodwill/Easter Seals training programs. Only Goodwill/Easter Seals program participants are eligible to apply to utilize this Emergency Fund.
Volunteer Book Drives
Volunteer your time coordinating a book drive! Support the E-Commerce Department at Goodwill/Easter Seals MN. The funds raised from the book sales go to support our mission of providing job training and support to individuals with disabilities and other barriers to employment. While all books are accepted, the following books are in high demands: nonfiction textbooks, hardcover fiction, regional books, self-help, dieting & health, cookbooks, inspirational/religious and finance.

Special Events
Assist with a new Goodwill store opening, or hand out refreshments and greet visitors at an event throughout the year. “Stuff the Truck” with donations at a Herberger’s store in March or September, Opportunities vary by season.
