Dislocated workers

Dislocated worker program is offered in Minneapolis and Ramsey County. You may be eligible for this program if you are out of work through no fault of your own, eligible for unemployment insurance and unlikely to return to your previous job. Other eligibility criteria may be considered based on your circumstance. We offer comprehensive services to assist individuals in selecting, planning for and getting a job in the field of their choice.

Services

One-to-one vocational counseling services include: 

  • Examining options, exploring careers and articulating your skills
  • Developing a job search plan that makes sense for your skills and circumstances
  • Resource coordination to identify needs and available community resources
  • Job search preparation from developing résumé to developing answers to interview questions
  • Identifying job openings and the hidden job market

Training assistance funds are available for skill-upgrading, certification or short-term training.

Support services funds for one-time-only payments of expenses such as childcare or transportation costs necessary to keep you on track in your job search.

Job placement assistance involves training to find posted job openings, develop warm leads and learn proactive approaches to find opportunities in the hidden job market. Job retention assistance and services are offered for up to one year after you obtain employment

 


Eligibility requirements: You may be eligible for this program if you are out of work through no fault of your own, eligible for unemployment insurance and unlikely to return to your previous occupation or industry.

Residency requirement: Minneapolis or Ramsey County

Funding:  The Dislocated Worker program is authorized by the Workforce Investment Act, and is administered federally by the U.S. Department of Labor. In Minnesota, it is funded by both state and federal funds. Those funds are distributed to local units of government allowing them to best meet local employment and training needs. Goodwill/Easter Seals is one of the community organizations contracted to provide Dislocated Worker Services.
