Goodwill-Easter Seals Minnesota is seeking passionate and dedicated individuals to share their time and talent as a volunteer mentor. Our mentoring efforts serve adult participants in our programs that include Automotive and Construction Training, ReEntry which serves individuals with criminal backgrounds and/or Ramsey County MFIP which serves families receiving county assistance. We offer both one-on-one and group mentoring options during daytime and evening hours. The ideal volunteer mentor will be comfortable working with people from diverse backgrounds, able to provide a listening ear and constructive feedback and offer support. The mentoring partnership will be focused on goals such as securing employment, healthy relationships and/or financial literacy. Gain valuable tutoring experience while assisting adult participants in the Goodwill-Easter Seals Minnesota Computer Lab! Work with the computer lab teacher to facilitate the mastery of basic computer terminology such as "mouse" and "cursor" and assist our adult learns in basic functions such as logging in and off of computers. Provide participants with personalized support while they learn how to use web browsers, create documents in Microsoft Word and gain keyboarding skills. Skills needed: General computer knowledge and familiarity with basic computer functions such as web browsing, Microsoft Word, typing etc. An interest in teaching or tutoring. High level of patience and ability to work with people who have very diverse needs including but not limited to: low computer literacy, English language learners, reading and learning disabilities.

Have a passion for helping people? Come volunteer your time and talent at the Medical Equipment Loan Program. The Equipment Loan Program provides durable medical equipment to customers who have a temporary short term need. All medical equipment is donated, and then fixed and cleaned before being loaned out. This position includes answering phones, answering questions about available equipment and hours of business and connecting people with other resources when Goodwill-Easter Seals Minnesota cannot meet their needs. Skills needed: Volunteer will possess telephone skills, customer service skills and the ability to learn about the nature of this Goodwill-Easter Seals Minnesota program to assist customers that call and request services. The ability to do light lifting is necessary.

Do you have experience providing employment interviews? Volunteer mock Interviewers are needed to provide valuable practice job interviews for participants in our Employment Training & Education classes or work experience programs. Mock interviewers must be able to conduct professional, consistent interviews for our participants with a wide variety of interviewing abilities, disabilities, and backgrounds. Interviews are offered as a way to reinforce course curriculum and refine interviewing skills.

Share your knowledge and passion for repairing cars. Work with our full-time trainer and assist students to learn job skills as they prepare for a new career in automotive repair. Provide support and guidance for Goodwill-Easter Seals Minnesota Automotive Service TechnicianTraining participants. Training focuses on safety, tool use, fluid and tire maintenance, vehicle inspection and brake repair.

The FATHER (Fostering Actions To Help Earnings and Responsibility) Project is a program of Goodwill-Easter Seals Minnesota. The goal of the FATHER Project is to assist parents in overcoming the barriers that prevent them from supporting their children economically and emotionally. Goodwill-Easter Seals Minnesota is looking for volunteers to work individually with program participants to help them prepare to take the General Educational Development (GED) exam. The goal of the program is to help participants pass each of the parts of the GED exam so that they can receive their diploma. Review key concepts with adult participants including English, math, social studies and science.

The GOALS (Goals On Average Life Styles) Program provides support for at-risk youth who want to make positive changes in their lives and improve their critical thinking in areas of planning, choices and goal setting. Youth set their own goals with direction from non-judgmental adults who guide them through a contracting process. After each contract, each youth earns a $15 bonus. Volunteer your time and energy working with youth participating in the GOALS Program located at the Goodwill Store in Willmar. Volunteers will work directly with youth by providing them with tools to help developing problem solving skills and techniques.

Use your construction related expertise to help to guide our Construction Training Program participants in the training shop and at construction sites! Work with the trainer to provide additional training support with safety, construction industry fundamentals, hand and power tool use, framing basics, blue print reading, construction related math and other topics. Required qualifications include strong hand and power tool skills, and strong knowledge of general building concepts. The ideal candidate should have extensive construction experience. Volunteer your time coordinating a donation drive! Support Goodwill-Easter Seals Minnesota in collectingin collecting gently-used clean clothing, electrical equipment and battery operated items, games and toys, sports and medical equipment. Donated items are given a “second life” and kept out of landfills. Plus, the money from the sale of your donated items provides support to Goodwill-Easter Seals’s overall mission of eliminating barriers to work and independence.
Volunteer your time coordinating a book drive! Support the E-commerce Department at Goodwill-Easter Seals Minnesota. The funds raised from the book sales go to support our mission of providing job training and support to individuals with disabilities and other barriers to employment. While all books are accepted, the following books are in high demands: nonfiction textbooks, hardcover fiction, regional books, self-help, dieting and health, cookbooks, inspirational/religious and finance.
Volunteer your time providing speed mock interviews with our participants! Goodwill-Easter Seals Minnesota's mission is to assist people with barriers to education, employment and independence in achieving their goals. One way we do this is by providing participants with Employment Readiness Training. This is a multiple day class that covers completing job applications, creating a résumé and what to expect from interview. At the end of the training, participants practice what they learned by participating in mock interviews. These interviews will take place in a unique and exciting speed interviewing format. Volunteers will have the opportunity to provide mock interviews to multiple participants and provide them with constructive feedback about their answers and general impressions. We are looking for volunteers with some experience providing interviews. Volunteers should be comfortable interviewing and giving constructive feedback to interviewees with a wide variety of skills and abilities.

Want to volunteer with your co-workers or school group. This is the opportunity for you! Your group may help with a variety of activities that include: Colorization, salvaging, greeting customers, detailed organization of books, highlighting special promotions, bagging purchases, performing customer surveys, assisting with store opening and grand openings and/or other special projects requested by staff. You and your volunteer group will play an important role in supporting our mission to eliminate barriers to work and independence. This opportunity is available for groups of 5–15 volunteers.
Where: Participating locations include: Apple Valley, Chanhassen, Forest Lake, Maplewood, Minneapolis and Minnetonka retail stores. When: Flexible schedule. The hours are flexible and will be dependent upon store location. Volunteers and store staff can create a schedule that works for both parties.
