Bipartisan commitment to our workforce

At a time when very little is making it all the way through to passage in the U.S. Congress, the Workforce Investment and Opportunity Act (WIOA) is poised to do just that next week! We have waited for over a decade for a revised job training bill and are pleased to see WIOA moving forward. The U.S. Senate voted overwhelmingly (95-3) on June 25, 2014 to approve H.R. 803, WIOA. This bill reauthorizes core workforce programs for youth, adults, dislocated workers and individuals with disabilities. It is an important step to modernizing our workforce system and ensuring that all workers and businesses have access to the skills they need to succeed in today’s economy.

Your local Goodwill-Easter Seals is an important part of helping to fill that skills gap with our Employment Training & Education courses. Already this year, we’ve made over 1,000 job placements and advancements.

The bill is expected to go to the U.S. House of Representatives next week for a final vote before heading to the president. Goodwill-Easter Seals supports passage of H.R. 803 and encourages you to contact your Representative to urge them to vote “yes” when the bill reaches the House floor.
