We first met Jennifer Allshouse at Goodwill-Easter Seals Minnesota’s Second Annual Employment Training & Education Barbecue last October 22, where she was a featured speaker. If you were there, you would have heard a young mom who was proud that she could now take care of her daughter, and you likely would have been interested in finding out more about her.
It turns out we’re not the only ones who thought she had an amazing story to tell. She’s the cover story of the Winter 2016 issue of Apprenticeship Works magazine.
The magazine’s story tells how Jennifer was able to build a new career thanks to Goodwill-Easter Seals Minnesota’s Construction Training Program. The 12-week course gave her the support and career skills she needed to help her change her life. The story details Jennifer’s devotion to her training, the support she received and her determination to succeed.
“My training was a stepping stone to a career,” she told the crowd in October. “I’ve gone so much farther than I ever thought I could.”
Her hard work paid off for her. After her training, she started as a registered apprentice union piledriver at the St. Croix Crossing Bridge, earning $26 an hour.
She’s thankful for the support she’s received from Goodwill-Easter Seals and is devoted to the work being done here, coming back regularly to offer support to participants who are trying to create their own success stories.
You’ll be hearing more about Jennifer’s story in the near future.
