How changing one life impacts many

A note from the president.

At Goodwill-Easter Seals Minnesota we help people transform their lives. We do that by eliminating the barriers they face to work and independence. We’re proud of what we do.

It’s not that simple, of course. Changing one life takes the efforts and expertise of many people. Similarly, when one life is improved it affects much more than just one person. It makes a difference for entire families and benefits whole communities.

Nicole is a great example. She came to us after being let go from a temporary job right before Christmas. When we helped to give her the skills she needed to land a full-time job as a receptionist, it changed her life. But it also improved the lives of her children – she explains that now, as her own self-esteem has grown, her two daughters’ confidence has increased as well. She’s also now in a job where she can offer support to others who are facing the same barriers as she was.

Our Construction Training program provides an example of how the work we do to change lives benefits an entire community.

When jobs were lost in the recent economic downturn, many people lost their homes as a result. In St. Paul’s Frogtown neighborhood, that meant empty, abandoned lots where there once were homes.

A few years ago, we created a partnership with the City of St. Paul and Urban Homeworks so that our Construction Training participants could take part in building new homes on some of Frogtown’ s empty lots. It was a plan to help rebuild a community – all while teaching our participants the skills they needed to transform their lives with a new career. The homes they’re building offer yet another benefit by providing affordable housing for low-income families in St. Paul.

Thank you for supporting our efforts to improve lives.
