By Michael Wirth- Davis, President & CEO of Goodwill-Easter Seals Minnesota
Think back to your first job. What steps did you take to find the job? Did a parent or a teacher help with your résumé? Introduce you to the hiring manager? Who drove you to the interview? What if you or your family didn’t own a car? What if you didn’t read English? What if you also had a disability? Now consider the thousands who are struggling to find their way into the workforce, the people for whom finding a job is even tougher. You see, Goodwill-Easter Seals serves the people that other agencies are not equipped to help.
Most of the people who come to us for employment services face multiple obstacles. For example, they don’t own a vehicle, are living below the poverty level, can’t afford childcare or also have a mental or physical disability.
You can help them get a foot in the door right here in the Twin Cities area, St. Cloud, Mankato, Elk River and Rochester – and give them the dignity, independence and security that employment provides.
Your gift on Nov. 13 will help people with barriers to work rise above their challenges, circumstances, disabilities and past. Please join me in making a gift during Minnesota’s great giveaway party, Give to the Max Day.
Together, we eliminate the social, economic and physical barriers to work so that all people, experience the dignity and power of work.
P.S. You can pre-schedule your gift to be given on Nov. 13 now.
