Congressman John Kline given the Goodwill Industries International Policymaker Award

John Kline represents Minnesota’s Second Congressional District, which includes much of the South Metro area. He is the Chair of the Education and Workforce Committee in the U.S. House of Representatives. Goodwill-Easter Seals Minnesota nominated Chairman Kline for, and he received, a Goodwill Industries International Policymaker Award in April 2015 for his efforts to successfully pass the Workforce Innovation and Opportunities Act (WIOA).

Chairman Kline provided leadership in a bipartisan and bicameral way to move this bill forward to final passage of 415-6 in House. WIOA is designed to help job seekers access employment, education, training, and support services to succeed in the labor market and to match employers with the skilled workers they need to compete in the global economy. Congress passed the Act by a wide bipartisan majority; it is the first legislative reform in 15 years of the public workforce system.

Currently, states, counties, higher education institutions and nonprofit employment service providers like Goodwill-Easter Seals are digging into the details of how WIOA implementation will take shape in each region. We are excited to be part of this new phase of workforce development in the state of Minnesota and look forward to improving the system, and hopefully the employment outcomes, for the people who walk through our doors.
