Teaching the skills needed to succeed
A note from the president.
To reach your destination, you first have to know how to get there.
I recently attended the grand opening of a new Goodwill store. Before going, I asked someone for directions; which roads to take, where to turn and the landmarks to look for along the way.
We all need directions at some point in our lives, a little guidance from someone who knows the way. At Goodwill-Easter Seals Minnesota, our mission is to help people overcome the barriers they face to work and independence. We’ve developed the expertise and experience needed to show our participants how to get where they hope to go.
One of the ways we help people reach their destinations is to provide education. In 2015, 277 people graduated from our training programs. We help our participants gain the skills and confidence they need to overcome the barriers they face so that they can land a job and succeed once they have it.
We helped Nancy learn how to impress her employer before and after she started her job. She came to us after a massive seizure resulted in her staying in an assisted living facility for several years. When she finally received approval from her doctor to work again, she went through our Retail Skills Training course, after which we helped her land a job at Cub Foods in Bloomington.
She recently celebrated her third anniversary at Cub Foods, is thrilled to be able to work again and loves her job.
Thanks to your support, and the efforts of our staff, volunteers and partners, we can help provide the directions to help people find success.
