Zombify yourself! DIY costume and makeup

By Staff Blogger Mary Beth Casement

The restless undead are taking over this October, and if you want to join them you’d better dress to impress – in zombie style, of course! Getting the zombie look can be inexpensive and easy, with most of the items that you need available at Goodwill! What kind of zombie will you be? Zombie bride, zombie celebrity, a horde of zombies with your friends? Head to your nearest Goodwill and pick out your costume. Once you’ve got the clothing, it’s time to zombify it! Rip and tear until you think your costume is tattered enough. Apply fake blood to the outfit and your costume is ready.

Now it’s time for makeup.

Here’s what you’ll need:

Check out the clip below to learn how to put it all together for a creepy zombie look.

Here are the steps:

  1. Put latex on a sponge and apply to areas of skin
  2. Place tissue on top of latex areas
  3. Rip tissue open to create appearance of a wound
  4. Use cream makeup in “wound” tissue areas, emphasizing darker colors in the middle
  5. Use white cream for remainder of skin outside of “gashes”
  6. Mix fake blood with ground coffee to create texture, then apply fake blood/coffee mixture to wound
  7. Consider yourself zombified!
