MINNESOTA NONPROFITS OPEN DOORS TO HEALING AND UNDERSTANDING
Nonprofit leaders representing many of Minnesota’s 501c3 organizations are mourning the tragic, senseless murder of George Floyd. Our thoughts are with Mr. Floyd’s family, and the broader community. His life mattered. We are listening. We are committed to action.
We recognize that George Floyd’s murder is not an isolated incident but is a symptom of a system that cultivates violence and injustice. Our organizations often serve people who experience injustice, economic disparities, and discrimination in their daily lives. We are dedicated to inclusion, diversity, and equity as central tenets in our service to Minnesota.
Now is also the time to take stronger actions to counter these systemic forces within our organizations’ work, and in the community. We are committed to actively work to reform and change systems that have maintained the status quo of inequity and injustice.
Nonprofits have different missions but our work to help enrich peoples’ lives is the same. We believe all people are worthy of dignity, respect, hope and opportunity. Our doors are always open to offer support, empathy, encourage listening and lead discourse that will bring about change. We invite healing, learning and perseverance to move forward as one Minnesota.
Visit websites of participating nonprofits to learn more about our individual action plans. Sign your name below as an agent of change and support our shared activism to bring about a more inclusive and equitable Minnesota.

The word ‘privilege’ has become controversial. For some it empowers while for others it evokes guilt. What does it mean to have white privilege? How do you recognize it? How can one move past white guilt? This workshop hosted by the YWCA Minneapolis will discuss the fundamentals of identity, power, privilege and how society is set up to benefit those who are white.
More Than a Single Story is a series of panel discussions/public conversations where writers of color discuss issues of importance to them in their own voices and in their own words. This session Arts activist Tess Montgomery will explore the intersections between financial independence and historical trauma on people of color and how it affects them in their daily lives. This event is funded with money from Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
The event hosted by YWCA Minneapolis is presented by artist, activists, trainer and keynote speaker Calvin Terrell. Calvin will lead us on a candid journey of decolonizing our minds and confronting racial oppression and its intersection with multiple identities by sharing perspectives from the oppressed as well as the oppressor.
