When Glenn first connected with Goodwill-Easter Seals Minnesota’s (GESMN) Reentry Program, he wasn’t sure what to expect. “I was living in a work release program, and someone gave me Dario’s number,” Glenn recalled. “I needed a bus card they could provide. But honestly, I didn’t want to ask for help.”
Like many people reentering the community after incarceration, Glenn faced challenges with employment, transportation and rebuilding his confidence. But thanks to Dario, a persistent and supportive GESMN career navigator, Glenn began attending reentry meetings and found more than just resources—he found community.
Turning Experience into Empowerment
Though hesitant at first, Glenn soon discovered he had a lot to offer others in the program. With a background as a licensed mental health and substance abuse counselor, he found himself sharing advice with younger participants. “I realized I was of use to them,” he said. “It reminded me of the work I used to do, and it felt good.”
With GESMN’s support, Glenn took resume-building courses and participated in reentry sessions. He began applying for jobs that aligned with his past work—and his passion for helping others.
Paying It Forward
Today, Glenn is thriving as a Work-Life Navigator at Repowered, a company where he supports 25 participants in a work-readiness program to refurbish electronics. He helps connect people to resources like housing, transportation and employment services while leading weekly group trainings.
With GESMN’s help he also completed Peer Recovery Specialist Training to assist individuals with mental health, substance use or co-occurring disorders and is now saving up to take the certification exam.
A Message to Others: ‘Get on Board’
Glenn wants others to know that there is support available. “Don’t ignore those emails from Dario,” he said. “Don’t fall into depression. Get out there. There are services you can connect with—like Goodwill-Easter Seals. So get on board.”
With the support and persistence of his GESMN Career Navigator, Glenn not only reentered the workforce—he found new purpose.
